Dreamweaver extensions…

Posted by: Jennifer In: Bookmarks

I have been loving dreamweaver MX. It's got all the cool stuff that dreamweaver had, and now has the equivalent of homesite built in. In any case, if you're a dreamweaver user, then you probably already know about macromedia's dreamwever exchange site… but when looking for an update to one of the cooler extenstions (that wasn't working with the new version) I found this site: Rabi's Dreamweaver extensions. He has the update to the extension I was looking for (Pop-up or Drop-down menus… whatever you call 'em) plus a whole bunch more. VERY COOL! :)

I know, in general, some of those extensions write some really scary code… but many of them I've found to be very stable… and there's a ton of stuff you can do with the simplicty of a mouse click… I just LOVE dreamweaver!!! (Sorry for the public display of software affection)

Despite the ease of use that Dreamweaver offers, I'm still too much of a code monkey to really use that software on its own. For my money, standalone Homesite is worth a whole lot more to me. :) Of course, I can definitely see some of the advantages of Dreamweaver for managing content on corporate servers when idiots are the publishers, but for stuff that I'm doing, I'll stick with the code itself so I know it's not getting mangled… maybe I was just burned by the earlier versions of Dreamweaver and Frontpage.

Have you tried Adobe GoLive? I have both software products here, trying to figure out which one I like more because when I switch to the Apple platform at home, I'll need to select which one to buy!

I had started out with GoLive, granted it was quite awhile ago – but felt that Dreamweaver was more powerful/stable. Haven't been tempted to switch back… (I haven't heard anything stunning about GoLive that made me feel like: "hmm… maybe I should look at it again")

As for Dreamweaver MX vs. Homesite… I actually use the "homesite" part the most of D-MX… but the WYSIWYG feature is nice to be able to do a quick "preview"… and of course, there's all those cool extentions that writes kick-ass scripts for you… (I can be a lazy scriptygoddess sometimes, can't I?) 😉
