AddALink v0.9(beta) Released

Posted by: Jennifer In: Announcements

Whats new: added ability to move links from one list to another. (v.8)
added ability to link images instead of just text (v.9)
changed script to write <br />'s instead of <br>'s (for validation)
Full details here.

(for those of you that have downloaded it and are using it, can you give me feedback about the script (email preferred) – is it working? notice anything weird with it, etc? – I'd like to, at some point, feel confident enough to say its an "official RELEASE")

Lots more on the way – I'm completely obsessed with making this do *everything* 😀

Okay, slight problem – what do I enter for the $pathToLinks in linkconfig.php? When I enter the full path to the directory where the linkfiles.php file is stored (along with all the other script files), then I get the following message:
"Fatal error: input in flex scanner failed in /home/domain/public_html/folder on line 1"
When I put the path including the linkfiles.php, I get this error message:
"Warning: Failed opening '/home/domain/public_html/folder/linkfiles.phpblogs.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/domain/public_html/folder/linkadmin.php on line 31"

At least, the second time, it finds that I have a link list stored in blogs.php, but it still seems to have issues. What's the problem here? :)

ste – that path should not include that linkfiles.php in the path… it just needs to point to the directory where your link file(s) are.

I'm guessing based on the error – this is what you need to put there:
/home/domain/public_html/folder/
*make sure you include that last slash!

I just tried putting the trailing slash as well and I still get the error.

When I actually specify linkfiles.php in that path, it seems to work fine until I add a list. Then, I start getting weird errors, like the second warning above. When I looked at the linkfiles.php file (after successfully adding a list), it had a blank line and then the name of the list file I had added. (Might the blank line be messing something up?)

Jenn helped me fix this promptly and now the script is working perfectly!! I just have one possible idea for a feature: link descriptions – non-linked text that describes the link (and having that text only appear on full link pages, not the randomized link page). Not a "necessary" feature, but it would definitely make this script cooler :) Thanks a TON for such an awesome script and for all of your help!!

There's a few known bugs with this version – I'll try to fix them in the next revision – hopefully in a few days.

Here's the bugs I have so far:
1) disallow creation of "blank" lists.
2) (unset array in getcode) so if multiple random lists are being included on one page, arrays don't merge.
3) Increase width of form fields
4) Correct headline on "remove a list" page.

Totally love this script, and I have some suggestions for next releases:
-ability to choose the target of the links (I always prefer mine to open in new windows)
-ability to choose different "spacers" for different lists…I use them for several purposes, and now I constantly have to edit the html by hand to change the spacers (the little :: ) to different things for different lists.
You did a great job on the script so far though!

I have never seen this code:

$itsNew = " **";

do anything. Is there something I am doing wrong?

it'll only come into play if/when you use the "recently updated" bit of code on your site. It'll put that ** next to a blog that's listed as one of the last 100 updated blogs on weblogs.com when you load the page with the links.

hi friends,

I am Gaurav Saparia,
I have a problem.
using PHP I want to read a file from http://www.something.com/abc.htm and store it in database as a string. thats ok
but some links like href=/abc/xyz.php should automatically replaced by href=http://www.something.com/abc/xyz.php same way path of image should start from http://.

If any body have an idea.

thanks

Hi, Guys,

I would like to see code for uploading files from client end using PHP. But after uploading file, the file name should not change.
